Auction on November 23, 2024: Beautiful “DAUM NANCY” “Vine with Snails” Furniture Auction - “Gastropods in the round, heat-fused, and several grapes rendered as delicate surface applications,” circa 1905–1910; the design attributed to Henri Bergé. Our lamp is a variation on a piece exhibited at the 1905 World’s Fair in Liège. Table lamp; the pear-shaped base with a shoulder resting on a pedestal, the pagoda-style lampshade with four pointed tips stretched with pliers. A multilayered glass piece; the rotating design is etched and treated in red, plum, and metallic violet-gray, creating rich iridescent effects on a yellow marbled background mixed with red ochre, heavily nuanced with violet toward the bases of the base and the lampshade. The design is enhanced by two snails rendered in the round, crafted from honey-colored and white glass and shaped and hot-bonded to the base, as well as eight grapes in slight relief, executed in violet-tinted glass as fine surface applications. Complete with its four-branch system in brass with an antique green patina; the collar features a design of bees gathering nectar from grape clusters. Circa 1905–1910. Signed “DAUM Nancy” with the Cross of Lorraine, engraved around the rim of the base.
