Incense burner sold for 17,500 euros at auction

April 6, 2024 Auction: JULES VIEILLARD Bourgeoise Auction in Bordeaux. A large incense burner made of turquoise-blue glazed porcelain in the shape of a lantern, featuring openwork and sculpted decorations of plants and birds. Signed in relief on the reverse. H. 59 cm. This two-part incense burner is inspired by a bronze lantern found notably in Hokusai’s *La Manga*, as well as the bronze lantern located at the Shiba Shrine in Tokyo. A similar piece is currently on display at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Bordeaux; it came from the Louis Bonie collection and was purchased at the Poutay auction in the late 19th century, a few years after the Manufacture closed in 1895.
